The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda Toir, has announced that the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development (2018–2028)” will be held from May 25 to 28, 2026, in Dushanbe under the Dushanbe Water Process.
Speaking at a media briefing, the ambassador described the Dushanbe Water Process as a key initiative of the Tajik government, designed to advance global water goals through biennial conferences organized in close collaboration with the United Nations.
He noted that the conference series is jointly chaired by Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. Previous conferences were successfully held in 2018, 2022, and 2024.
The upcoming conference aims to continue Tajikistan’s efforts to provide an inclusive global platform for policy dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnership-building on water-related issues. It will focus on mobilizing international support for commitments under the UN Water Action Agenda and accelerating progress toward water-related targets of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the ambassador, the event will promote the exchange of best practices and innovative solutions, strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, and raise awareness and political commitment for sustainable water management worldwide.
He added that the conference will serve as a key preparatory meeting for the 2026 UN Water Conference, co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates, and will also contribute to preparations for the 2028 UN Water Conference reviewing the outcomes of the Water Action Decade.
As per the schedule, side events and forums will be held on May 25, followed by high-level sessions on May 26 and 27 at the Kohi Somon Complex in Dushanbe. On May 28, participants will take part in field visits and study tours to observe Tajikistan’s water management practices.
The conference will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including government representatives, international and regional organizations, financial institutions, the private sector, civil society, academia, and local communities.
The ambassador emphasized that the event will be held in person to ensure meaningful engagement and direct interaction among participants.
