Members of the National Assembly on Friday praised the Federal Budget 2026–27, describing it as a balanced and people-friendly financial plan that provides relief to salaried individuals, promotes youth development, and supports economic stability despite challenging global economic conditions.
Speaking on the budget, MNA Saba Sadiq said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his economic team deserved appreciation for presenting a public-friendly budget at a time when the global economy faced significant headwinds.
She said that despite regional tensions and international economic uncertainty, the government had succeeded in delivering a budget that offers relief to the salaried class and low-income groups through tax reductions and other supportive measures.
Saba Sadiq highlighted that special attention had been given to Pakistan’s youth, who constitute more than 57 per cent of the population. She noted the government’s focus on skill development through the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, under which more than 100,000 young people are being trained, particularly in the information technology sector.
She also welcomed increased allocations for the health and education sectors, saying relief measures for salaried employees and pensioners reflect the government’s commitment to public welfare.
“In these difficult circumstances, presenting such a budget is a significant achievement. I pay tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his entire team for steering the country towards stability and economic progress,” she added.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Dr Shaista Khan Jadoon also appreciated the government’s efforts, saying the budget reflects a balanced approach aimed at supporting economic growth while maintaining fiscal discipline. She termed it a people-centric financial plan prepared amid challenging global economic conditions.
Meanwhile, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said Pakistan has achieved a stronger position internationally and must now focus on becoming economically self-reliant. He stressed that continued engagement with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and reforms in the energy sector could help reduce costs and benefit consumers. He also underlined the importance of addressing revenue leakages and improving tax collection mechanisms.
Commenting on the budget, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt said presenting a balanced budget while remaining under an IMF programme was a notable achievement. She said the budget provides relief to the salaried class and includes measures aimed at supporting economic stability. She also highlighted the importance of women’s economic participation, noting that several sectors where women play a key role are expected to benefit from the government’s broader economic policies.
