Islamabad: The 3rd meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy (Petroleum Division) was convened today at 11:00 a.m. in Committee Room No. 7 (4th Floor), Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Syed Mustafa Mehmood, MNA, and was also attended by the Federal Minister for the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) along with members of the Standing Committee.
The officers from the Ministry provided a detailed briefing on the activities and responsibilities of its several departments, the provision of an uninterrupted and environmentally friendly energy resource, and, most importantly, the issues and problems associated with gas transmission and distribution in the country.
The Ministry informed the committee that indigenous gas supplies have been continuously decreasing year over year, while exploration and production companies have not made any major discoveries for a long time. As a result, the supply of indigenous gas has decreased sharply.
The committee stressed the critical necessity for efficient distribution of natural gas resources, as well as the reduction of line losses through strict monitoring.
The Committee also decided to convene the next meeting on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mechanism and initiatives carried out by oil and gas companies, both public and private.
The meeting was attended by Honourable Members Syed Naveed Qamar, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, Mr. Mujahid Ali, Mr. Anwar-ul-Haq Chaudhary, Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, Mr. Gul Asghar Khan, Mr. Salahuddin Junejo, Mr. Muhammad Moin Aamer Pirzada, Mr. Asad Alam Niazi, Mian Khan Bugti, and senior officers from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) and its attached departments and organizations.
