London (Correspondent Report) :Senator Lieutenant General (R) Abdul Qayyum has called for urgent structural reforms in the United Nations to ensure global justice and a peaceful resolution to long-standing conflicts like Kashmir. Speaking at a special event held in the prestigious Margaret Thatcher Committee Room at the House of Commons, Westminster, the senator stressed that the current structure of the UN, particularly the use of veto power by permanent members of the Security Council, has become a major barrier to justice.

“To ensure international justice and to peacefully resolve long outstanding issues like Kashmir, we must reorganize the United Nations and remove its structural flaws which permit the use of veto power,” he said, addressing an audience that included over a dozen British Parliamentarians, Kashmiri activists, and community leaders.

The conference, presided over by British MP James Frith, was organized by Raja Najabat Hussain, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Self Determination Movement International, in collaboration with Councillor Yasmin Dar. It was marked by strong and unified calls for global accountability and the recognition of Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

In his remarks, Senator Abdul Qayyum emphasized that the veto power has historically allowed powerful nations to shield their allies and suppress genuine struggles for justice, particularly in regions like Kashmir where human rights violations have persisted for decades. He maintained that a reformed UN must act as a neutral, effective platform for conflict resolution, rather than a tool of political influence.

The event saw the participation of senior political figures from both the UK and Pakistan, including former Home and Foreign Secretary Rt Hon Sir James, MPs Naz Shah and Afzal Khan, and AJK Assembly member Aamir Yaseen. Senator Dr. Humayun from Pakistan and Mr. Bakhtavri, Chairman of D. Watson Group, were also in attendance.

Speakers across the board urged the British Parliament and the broader international community to intensify diplomatic efforts and take a proactive role in highlighting the plight of Kashmiris. They condemned the misuse of global institutions to suppress legitimate political struggles and reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful and democratic advocacy.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir, advocate for the reform of international institutions, and ensure that justice and human rights are not compromised by political expediencies.
