BEIJING: Pakistan’s exports of dental instruments and appliances to China rose by 4% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, reaching $2 million, according to the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). This is up from $1.93 million during the same period last year, signaling steady progress in the sector.

Data shows that shipments totaled 205,840 kilograms, with an average price of $0.47 per kilogram—among the most cost-effective in the market. The increase is part of a broader rise in Pakistan’s medical trade with China, with exports of medical and surgical instruments valued at $5.56 million, veterinary instruments at $3.24 million, and ophthalmic equipment at $155,465.

Ghulam Qadir, Trade and Investment Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, attributed the growth to multi-million-dollar strategic partnerships formed between Pakistani and Chinese companies in January 2025. These agreements, facilitated through Beijing’s B2B medical conferences, focused on tariff cuts of 3%–5% under the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement and improved supply chain integration, according to CEN.

Industry experts say Pakistan’s Sialkot hub—ranked the fifth-largest medical equipment manufacturing center globally—capitalized on low production costs and EU-standard compliance to meet China’s demand for high-volume consumables. Ambassador Khalil Hashmi highlighted Pakistan’s “strategic connectivity and raw material reserves” as key drivers of sustained growth.

Looking ahead, the HEALTH ASIA 2025 expo in Karachi from October 23–25 is expected to serve as a pivotal platform for Pakistani producers to engage with over 500 Asian buyers and explore joint ventures in high-value medical niches.
