ISLAMABAD:The coalition government has summoned the National Assembly, Senate and federal cabinet on Monday (today) to table and pass the constitutional amendment which they failed on Sunday.

The National Assembly and the Senate will meet here on 12:30 pm as both the houses adjourned their session on Sunday for Monday.

Similarly, the cabinet which could not meet yesterday, has been summoned again but its time has not yet been notified.

On Sunday, a special committee constituted for setting up a new “constitutional court” to take up matters regarding interpretation of the constitution, which comprised the government and the opposition parties, gave conditional support to the constitutional court.

The special committee includes the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F).

Speaking in the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rahman refused to support the government on the issue of extension in tenure of high ranking officials.

According to sources, the Maulana suggested “detailed” debate on the bill.

The PTI also backed the JUI-F chief and said that the legislation should not be enacted in haste.

The government adjourned the session of National Assembly till tomorrow (Monday) moments after the sitting held on Sunday (today) late night.
