Field Marshal Asim Munir meets top US political, military leadership

RAWALPINDI : Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met senior American political and military leadership, as well as members of the Pakistani diaspora during an official visit to the United States.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during his stay in Tampa, the army chief attended the retirement ceremony of US Central Command’s outgoing commander, General Michael E. Kurilla, and the change of command ceremony where Admiral Brad Cooper assumed command.

Field Marshal Munir praised General Kurilla’s outstanding leadership and his role in strengthening Pakistan-US military relations. He also extended his best wishes to Admiral Cooper and expressed confidence in continued cooperation to address shared security challenges.

The Pakistan army chief also met Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kain, during which matters of mutual professional interest were discussed. He invited General Kain to visit Pakistan.

The army chief also held informal meetings with defense chiefs of friendly countries.

According to the ISPR, Field Marshal Munir participated in an interactive session with the Pakistani-American community. He urged them to have confidence in Pakistan’s bright future and to play an active role in promoting investment. The expatriates reaffirmed their commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development and prosperity.

A couple of months ago, Gen Kurilla praised Pakistan as an “outstanding partner” in counter-terrorism efforts, acknowledging its fight against militancy in Balochistan and its operations against groups such as the Islamic State.

During his visit, the field marshal also held a meeting with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Dan Caine to discuss matters of shared professional interest. On the occasion, Gen Asim Munir invited Gen Caine to visit Pakistan.

According to ISPR, the army chief also engaged with defence chiefs from allied countries on the sidelines of the event.
