BEIJING:
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has said that the boundary issue between China and India is complex and deeply rooted in history, and thus cannot be resolved in a short period of time.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Mao emphasized that both sides are committed to resolving the matter through diplomatic and military dialogue. She reiterated China’s stance of maintaining peace and stability in the border regions and expressed hope that India would work with China in the same spirit.

“The China-India boundary issue is a historical legacy. The situation is generally stable, and both sides are maintaining communication through established channels,” Mao Ning said.

The spokesperson added that while there have been rounds of talks between the two nations, mutual trust and constructive engagement remain essential to avoid any escalation of tensions.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions between Indian and Chinese military officials over friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), particularly in eastern Ladakh. Both nations have maintained a military standoff in the region since mid-2020.

Mao reiterated China’s hope that the two sides will “meet each other halfway” to achieve a fair and mutually acceptable solution through peaceful means.

“It takes time to resolve such a complicated issue. The key is dialogue, not confrontation,” she stressed.

This statement reflects China’s continued diplomatic messaging aimed at de-escalating tensions and preventing any conflict along one of the world’s most sensitive and heavily militarized borders.
