Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (SI) inaugurated the 756.38 kWp Grid-Tied Solar System with Net Metering and DG Synchronization at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, marking a major milestone in the University’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable campus development.

The project, completed at a total cost of Rs. 100 million, was jointly funded by the Higher Education Commission (Rs. 50 million) and Fatima Jinnah Women University (Rs. 50 million). The system comprises 476.72 kWp at the City Campus and 279.66 kWp at Campus-II, with net metering and synchronization with the national grid. USPCASE, UET Peshawar served as the consultant, while M/s Associated Technologies (Private) Limited executed the project.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (PoP, T.I.) presented an overview of the University’s achievements, highlighting FJWU’s national and international rankings, research and innovation initiatives, global collaborations, sustainability efforts, and its growing contribution to higher education in Pakistan.

Congratulating the University on the successful completion of the project, Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar appreciated FJWU’s remarkable progress and achievements at both national and international levels. He reaffirmed HEC’s commitment to supporting university through continued collaboration in academic excellence, research, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure development. He also emphasized that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping future generations and driving national progress through quality education and research.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza thanked HEC for its continued support and stated that the solarization project reflects FJWU’s commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible resource management, and the development of a greener and more energy-efficient campus.
According to the University’s Planning & Development Directorate, the solar power system has already begun generating clean energy and is expected to recover its investment within 2.5 to 2.8 years, significantly reducing electricity costs while lowering the University’s carbon footprint.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Tahir Mukhtar, Director Planning & Development, who acknowledged the support of HEC, the University leadership, project partners, faculty, staff, and all stakeholders in the successful completion of the landmark initiative.
