ISLAMABAD : Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif categorically stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir did not make any political remarks during his recent visit to Brussels, nor did he mention any apology.
The army chief was in Brussels to attend high-level meetings and events where he addressed issues related to Pakistan’s foreign policy, defence strategy, and security challenges.
During an informal discussion with journalists, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif clarified that the Field Marshal did not give any interview to a journalist in Brussels nor did he make any political statement.
He also stressed that there was no mention of reconciliation with PTI. He expressed regret that even a senior journalist acted irresponsibly, saying the army is a responsible institution.
He explained that hundreds of people were present at the Brussels event, many of whom took pictures with the Field Marshal. However, the journalist distorted facts for personal interest and publicity, which he termed as an inappropriate act. He added that anyone involved in unlawful activities will have to be brought before the law.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif further said that the planners and perpetrators of the May 9 violence will be held accountable. He emphasized that May 9 was not just an issue of the Army but of the entire nation, describing it as a conspiracy against the state of Pakistan.
He concluded that those responsible should seek forgiveness for the unrest, but forgiveness cannot stop the legal process.
