Punjab Gears Up for 79th Independence Day with Spirit and Splendor: CM Maryam Nawaz Leads the Celebrations

LAHORE:On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, celebrations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day have officially begun across the province with great enthusiasm, dignity, and patriotic fervor.

In her statement, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that this year’s celebrations are centered around youth and children, focusing on national pride, traditional cultural identity, and the values of truth and freedom. She directed that messages from children, national heroes, celebrities, and athletes be shared as part of the official festivities.

She said this year’s Independence Day is marked under the theme “From the Acquisition of Independence to the Protection of Independence”, highlighting Pakistan’s symbolic victory in the “Battle of Truth, Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.” The chief minister added that this struggle for truth has renewed the spirit and value of freedom among the nation.

From August 1 to 14, special Independence Day events are underway in every district of Punjab. The main ceremony will be held on August 14 at Hazuri Bagh, Lahore, where CM Maryam Nawaz will hoist the national flag. On the same day, she will also inaugurate the Battle of Truth Park, Museum, and Memorial at the Lahore Expo Center.

Public participation is a key element of this year’s celebrations. National flags are being hoisted across homes, shops, and public buildings throughout Punjab. Streets and markets are being adorned with lights, while cultural floats and roadshows will showcase Pakistan’s diverse heritage and rich traditions.

The chief minister announced that fireworks and laser shows will light up the skies at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 9, with similar displays scheduled at the divisional and tehsil levels. Flag-hoisting ceremonies at the Chief Minister’s Office and other government institutions will take place on August 10, while nationwide motorcycle rallies are planned for August 13.

Paying tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, CM Maryam Nawaz commended the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and praised the military’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation’s independence. She called on all Pakistanis to actively take part in the celebrations to show the world that Pakistan is a proud, united, and resilient country.
