13 Soldiers Martyred in North Waziristan Suicide Attack; 14 Terrorists Killed in Swift Response

India-backed cowardly assault targets military convoy in Mir Ali — Nation mourns its heroes, vows to eliminate terror from its roots

PESHAWAR : As many as 13 Pakistani soldiers have embraced martyrdom in a suicide attack in Mir Ali area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

Two children and a civilian woman are also among the injured, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The soldiers laying their lives in the suicide attack were identified as: Subedar Zahid Iqbal (age: 45 years, resident of Karak); Havaldar Sohrab Khan (age: 39 years, resident of Naseerabad); Havaldar Mian Yousaf (age: 41 years, resident of Buner); Naik Khitab Shah (age: 34 years, resident of Lower Dir); Lance Naik Ismail (age: 32 years, resident of Naseerabad); Sepoy Rohail (age: 30 years, resident of Mirpur Khas); Sepoy Muhammad Ramzan (age: 33 years, resident of Dera Ghazi Khan); Sepoy Nawab (age: 30 years, resident of Quetta); Sepoy Zubair Ahmed (age: 24 years, resident of Naseerabad); Sepoy Muhammad Sahki (age: 31 years, resident of Dera Ghazi Khan); Sepoy Hashim Abbasi (age: 20 years, resident of Abbotabad); Sepoy Muddasir Ejaz (age: 25 years, resident of Layyah); and Sepoy Manzar Ali (age: 23 years, resident of Mardan).

ISPR detailed that the attacker targeted a military convoy with an explosive-laden vehicle.

Following the attack, the security forces conducted a sanitisation operation and killed 14 terrorists. The operation will continue till those responsible for such cowardly attacks are brought to justice, said the ISPR.

President, PM pay tribute

President Zardari paid tribute to the 13 brave soldiers who embraced martyrdom today, saying they laid down their lives to ensure the protection of the motherland. “Those who sacrifice their lives for the defence of the nation are our real heroes,” said the President.

He expressed the resolve that the nation will never forget the sacrifices of its martyrs and the Pakistani nation and its armed forces are determined to eradicate Indian-backed terrorism from its roots. “Such cowardly attacks cannot dampen the nation’s spirit,” he added.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured civilians, including women and children.

PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the martyred soldiers of the Pakistan Army in the terrorist attack while expressing grief over injuries to innocent civilians. He prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and offered condolences to their families.

He also praised the security forces for eliminating 14 Khawarij terrorists in retaliation, stating that the Indian-backed terrorists carried out a cowardly act and that the entire nation salutes the martyrs.

Separately, in a statement, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the terrorist attack by the “Fitna-e-Hindustan” on the security forces’ convoy. He said that the Pakistani nation will always remember the unforgettable sacrifices of its brave soldiers.
